Solarbuzz: Global solar PV capacities to reach over 200 GW by 2015

Cumulative global installed PV capacities have doubled every two years on average since 2004
Cumulative global installed PV capacities have doubled every two years on average since 2004

NPD Solarbuzz (Santa Clara, California, US) has issued a new analysis which states that cumulative global solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity is likely to double from 2012 to 2015 to over 200 GW.

Senior Analyst Michael Barker notes that while the 2012 PV market did not grow as much as many hoped for, it still set a new record for annual installations. This allowed the cumulative global PV capacity to reach 100 GW during 2012, roughly double 2010 levels.

PV industry poised for growth

This pattern has allowed cumulative installations to double every two years since 2004. However, as annual growth rates declined from 2011-2012 and are expected to stay low in 2013, this will reduce the doubling rate to every three years, under current policy and price conditions.

Y-Sol4 F.A.T. with new versions

Cost pressure in the photovoltaic industry is increasing. That’s why Yamaichi Electronics has developed another connector version for 4 to 6mm² cable cross-sections. They extend the successful Y-Sol4 F.A.T. product line. The Y-Sol4 F.A.T. has a spring clamping mechanism for simple clamping of stripped cable in the field. This permits quick, effective assembly without crimping.

The new versions of the Y-Sol4 F.A.T. are specifically suited for thin wire outer diameters of 4.5mm to 6.1mm. Thin wires are popular in photovoltaic installations today because they are more cost-effective due to material savings. The existing versions continue to cover the range of larger cable diameters from 6.1mm to 7.6mm.

Based in Venray (Netherlands) SolarExcel has developed a proprietary light trapping technology that can significantly increase the efficiency of solar panels. With the acquisition DSM expands its growing portfolio of solar energy enabling technologies. Financial details of the acquisition are not disclosed.

SolarExcel BV started in 2007 with the development of its proprietary light trapping technology. This technology consists of a textured polymeric sheet that can be laminated to the (glass) cover of a photo voltaic (PV) module. The textured surface causes light to be guided towards the active layer of the module, significantly reducing the loss of light caused by internal reflection. The technology works under all angles of incidence and also improves the efficiency of solar modules with a suboptimal orientation.

PV inverter by Zeversolar. SMA plans to use the majority stake primarily to aid comprehensive operation in the Chinese market

SMA Solar Technology AG (Niestetal, Germay) has concluded the acquisition of a majority stake of 72.5% in Jiangsu Zeversolar New Energy Co., Ltd. (Shanghai), a solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter manufacturer in China.

The acquisition of a majority share in Zeversolar was approved by the Chinese government authorities. Zeversolar's products are specially tailored to the requirements of the Chinese photovoltaic market, SMA emphasizes. This transaction secures SMA access to the growing Chinese PV market and strategically consolidates its position as a global market leader.

Chinese government raises PV expansion targets to 10 GW each year

Just recently, the Chinese government has significantly raised its photovoltaic expansion targets again. The new target is to install a further 10 gigawatts each year over the next three years making China the largest photovoltaic market worldwide.
